Riveters Partner with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ to Promote Health and Wellness

The Metropolitan Riveters today announced a partnership with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) for the upcoming National Women’s Hockey League season. In this significant sponsorship of the Riveters, New Jersey’s largest health insurance carrier and the women’s pro hockey team will jointly promote health initiatives across the Garden State.

“We are incredibly excited to announce this historic partnership,” said Riveters general manager Kate Whitman Annis. “Among our players’ biggest passions is working to end the stigma around mental health in sports. With Horizon’s long history of promoting health and wellness initiatives and its commitment to behavioral health, in particular, this partnership will move the conversation forward in New Jersey.”

Horizon BCBSNJ will work alongside Riveters players, coaches, and staff to promote the integration of physical and mental health.

“These are issues that are near and dear to our hearts,” said Riveters captain and all-star forward Madison Packer, who has been with the team since the NWHL’s inaugural season. “We’re deeply appreciative to be working alongside Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield this year.”

Among the many media assets of the partnership, Horizon BCBSNJ will be the presenting sponsor of the starting lineup for all Riveters home games and be a sponsor of a Riveters digital newsletter that will begin in January.

“Few sports can match the thrills and excitement of professional hockey, and no team but the Metropolitan Riveters brings the action of women’s hockey right into New Jersey fans’ own backyard,” said Christopher M. Lepre, Executive Vice President of Commercial Business for Horizon BCBSNJ.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is the state's oldest and largest health insurer and a tax-paying, not-for-profit health service corporation, providing a wide array of medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance products and services. Horizon BCBSNJ is leading the transformation of health care in New Jersey by working with doctors and hospitals to deliver innovative, patient-centered programs that reward the quality, not quantity, of care patients, receive.
